When I first started working with Seth, he had just been awarded a fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. He had recently started experimenting with some new processes and techniques, and was beating his head against his artist statement and wall-copy for his exhibition. We began our working relationship with a series of casual conversations so that I could get a sense of his work, his technique, and how he spoke about them informally.
I’ve been working with Seth on his communication strategy for about six years now. We’ve refined concrete applications for grants and fellowships, strategized about developing his niche in interviews and other press coverage, and have continued to work out clear language for describing his work — even (and perhaps especially) as his artistic practice has changed.
